'Era of Witches' is an upcoming collection by Snake Bite Books, set for release in late 2026. Ten twisted tales of witchcraft; each taking place in a different time setting.
​
Over the next year we will run several submission windows for this collection. Each time we will provide two time eras, and you - the writer - decide which one you want to set your story in. We will select one winning story from each era for publication.

FIRST AND SECOND ERA:
1340s and 1960s.
​
We want the stories to be well-researched and for the time setting to play a key role in the story. Your witches can be good, evil, or somewhere in the middle. They can be the main character(s), or they can sit somewhere spookily in the background - as long as they as essential to the plot. Although we will be open to publishing one or two stories with your typical wicked cackling cauldron-hogging gal, we want to really have a variety of witches, and a variety of reasons for their turn to witchcraft.

If there's evil try to vanquish it by the close of the story, and if you cannot, make it meaningful!

Word Limits: 3,000 - 5,000
Entry Fee: £5.00
Deadline: Midnight, October 31st
Please use the era you select as the title of your piece.

As we are running this as a paid-entry contest, we are upping the prize money to £50 per winning story. We also (being run by writers!) understand that paying to enter a contest and getting nothing in return is dire, so ALL entries that are not selected will receive a one-page feedback report from us with details of what we loved and what we wished we saw more of within the work.
